It’s that time of year again, when we get to look back over another year of game-changing fashion moments and give gongs to the ones who did it best! This morning, the nominations for 2019’s Fashion Awards were announced, and the long list is a colourful and eclectic tapestry of who’s doing the most in the style world right now.
Three brands are leading the pack with four nominations each: Gucci, Loewe and Bottega Veneta, each getting a mention in categories like Brand of the Year, Accessories Designer of the Year and Designer of the Year for Alessandro Michele, Jonathan Anderson and Daniel Lee respectively.
On the whole, it’s an exciting year for new talent too. Simon Porte Jacquemus continues his reign with his namesake label picking up a ‘Brand of the Year’ nomination, while Alighieri’s Rosh Mahtani, Rejina Pyo and Kiko Kostadinov’s Laura and Deanna Fanning won recognition for their work in emerging womenswear. Meanwhile, i-D favourite Sofia Prantera earned her first BFA nomination for Aries in the emerging menswear category.
For model of the year, i-D contributing editor Adesuwa Aighewi goes up against former cover stars Adut Akech and Adwoa Aboah, while last year’s winner Kaia Gerber (also an i-D cover alumni) also made the line-up alongside Winnie Harlow.
Edging in, still high off the dizzying fumes of LVMH success, is Fenty, Rihanna’s namesake luxury label that will go head-to-head with Marine Serre, Martine Rose, ALYX and Moncler Genius in the Urban Luxe category.
Eager to know who’ll take home a statuette? Stay tuned: The Fashion Awards will be held on December 2nd at the Royal Albert Hall.
