Ariana Grande has a new side-gig, and this one is arguably one of her most epic yet. As not-so-subtly hinted through a series of teaser Instagram posts shared by Ariana, creative director Clare Waight Keller and Givenchy’s official account, the fashion house has since confirmed everybody’s favourite popstar will front its autumn/winter 2019 campaign.
As you’d imagine, Ariana is pretty gassed. “I am so proud to be the new face of Givenchy,” she wrote in an official statement. “It is a house I have forever admired and to now be part of the family is such an honor. I love this clothing and the confidence and joy it brings to the people wearing it. Not only is the clothing timeless and beautiful but I’m proud to work with a brand that makes people feel celebrated for who they are, and unapologetic about whoever they want to be.”
Givenchy are pretty happy to have secured Ariana too, calling her, “a modern muse and the voice of a generation”, adding, “she naturally embodies the spirit of the Givenchy woman with impertinence, generosity and a lightning wit – all cloaked in a touch of mystery”.
Following in the footsteps of a pretty mega line-up of former brand faces like Naomi Campbell, Bella Hadid and Erykah Badu, it seems like it’s Givenchy’s OG muse Audrey Hepburn that Ariana will channel in the upcoming campaign.
The teased campaign pics show the star in a cut-out black gown not too dissimilar to one Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, with a pearl-encrusted headband. Of course, she’s bringing a fair bit of Ariana realness too, swishing her iconic, super long, super heavy ponytail as she sings a few harmonies.
The full campaign (which already has its own hashtag #Arivenchy, FYI) doesn’t drop until July, but at least it’s offering us a pretty satisfying slice of Grande while we await the “thank u, next” beauty line she reportedly trademarked last month.
