We asked a handful of our favourite photographers to look back at 2018 and remember it through the photographs they took. From i-D contributions to personal pictures of friends, family and strangers on the street, this is Micaiah Carter: My Year in Photos.
Brooklyn-based photographer Micaiah Carter creates a world you’d dream of living in. There’s a depth and warmth to every one of his images that, if it were present in our everyday lives, would make each moment we live feel just a little more poignant. Growing up in California, perhaps it’s the proximity to open beaches and warm weather. Now based in New York, Micaiah’s growing portfolio includes covers for TIME and King Kong, Moses Sumney for Wall Street Journal, Afropunk portraits for Vogue, and campaigns for Thom Browne and Nike.

These were some of my favourite outtakes from the Thom Browne golf campaign. I really loved shooting at Philip Johnson’s Glass House. It was very inspiring to see the detail and creativity in person.

These were personal photos inspired by Seydou Keïta. They were made in collaboration with my good friend Inyegumena Nosegbe, who is an art director at Spring Studios, and also my amazing friend, stylist Nathan Klein from London.

I got to collaborate with my friend Duckie Thot for the cover of Wonderland. We’ve been wanting to shoot all year and finally made it happen.

This is one of my favourite images from the Kendrick Lamar Cortez Kenny campaign. This girl is actually The Game’s daughter and it was so amazing how well she adapted within the family we created for the campaign.

This is the single cover for Yaeji’s new song One More. Her music makes me melt.

It was such a 360 shooting Ciara for King Kong because the older I get I realise how big of an impact she had on my life and also culture in general. 1,2 Step will always be iconic.
