It won’t be released in UK cinemas until 2019, but the buzz around Beautiful Boy starring Timothée Chalamet is already pretty intense.
Directed by Felix Van Groeningen, the film is based on the memoirs Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction and Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines written by father and son David and Nic Sheff, respectively. The stories chronicle the difficulties encountered as a result of Nic’s drug addiction. Bringing the two perspectives together — that of an addict and a loved one — the film comes at a time when opioid addiction in the United States becoming a huge health epidemic.
The latest Beautiful Boy film clips to be released see Nic begging for money to buy drugs, attempting to confront his issues with his dad and mother — played by Amy Ryan — and dealing with the boredom and awkwardness of rehab. In one short clip, Nic and David discuss the alienation and isolation that comes with growing up, as the pair struggle to connect with one another despite their best intentions.
