Sarah Snook has had a good run over the past five years, mostly because, for much of those five years, she’s become Shiv Roy from Succession to that show’s captive global audience. But now the hit series is nearing the end of its run, we’ve been intrigued to see where its stars will go next. In Sarah’s case, she’s delving into the world of horror movies, as the executive producer and lead actor of Netflix’s Run Rabbit Run.
The movie – which had its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival in January this year – was bought by the streamer, presumably off the back of our insatiable appetite for scary movies and Sarah’s name being a big sell for the Succession crowd. Now, we’ve got our first look at the film’s trailer. But what’s the plot of Run Rabbit Run? Who else appears in the movie? And when will the film hit Netflix? Here’s everything we know about the movie so far.

In a similar vein to movies like Hereditary and The Babadook, Run Rabbit Run is a horror film about the perils of motherhood. Alongside Sarah Snook in the lead role, there are a cast of mostly Australian actors. (The film was shot and produced in Australia, Sarah’s home country.) Her daughter, Mia, is played by newcomer Lily LaTorre. Sarah’s ex-husband Pete is played by Damon Herriman, who also appeared in House of Wax and The Nightingale, Jennifer Kent of The Babadook’s second feature.
Who directed, wrote and produced Run Rabbit Run?
Run Rabbit Run is directed by Daina Reid, a filmmaker known best for her work in television. She has previously directed episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale, which earned her an Emmy nomination in 2019. The script for the film was a screenwriting debut for horror novelist Hannah Kent. Alongside Sarah Snook as an executive producer is Nate Bolotin, responsible for The Raid and its acclaimed sequel, as well as Katie Anderson, Jake Carter, Jack Christian, D.J. Macpherson, Nick Spicer, Aram Tertzakian, Deanne Weir and more.

Yes! Netflix unveiled the first trailer for the film on 9 May 2023. Watch it below.
Is Run Rabbit Run supposed to be good?
The film has so far only played to a select festival audience, where the reviews were mixed. One publication said its chilling atmosphere will make you “question your sanity”, while Arts Fuse called it “nuanced and many-layered”. Critics have also singled out Sarah Snook’s performance, with The Times saying she “carries the piece with gusto”.
Others have been less kind. Sight & Sound called it “derivative” while RogerEbert.com claimed it “engages in the worst impulses in horror storytelling”. Oop.
Anyway, the film hasn’t yet been seen by a wider audience, and oftentimes that’s when the opinion on these movies shift quite substantially. Everything is subjective.
When will Run Rabbit Run hit Netflix?
Run Rabbit Run premieres on Netflix globally on 28 June.
