Miu Miu x New Balance’s sophisticated take on sportswear

For the second drop of the brands’ collaboration, footwear giant NB reimagines its iconic 574 sneaker for Miu Miu’s creative universe.

Is there a micro-trend that Miu Miu hasn’t dominated? With a refreshing approach, the brand absorbs even the most subtle shift in the cultural discourse; expanding and deconstructing it. From pre-loved fashion to y2k silhouettes and viral aesthetics like old money, the brand’s collections always nod to different facets of contemporary style — anticipating, critiquing or simply filtering them through its irreverent yet sophisticated creative lens.

Even in sportswear and athleisure, Miu Miu has a reputation for staying true to its definition of style, emphasising shared values of functionality and dynamism. The meeting of balletcore and tenniscore in Miu Miu’s AW22 collection, the Olympic glam looks of SS21, the quilted après-ski onesies of AW22. These are just some of the standout moments that reinterpreted archetypes of sportswear, resulting in unexpected fusions of introspective and bold femininity.

With the relationship between sportswear and Miu Miu firmly established, it comes as no surprise that Miuccia Prada’s brand has embarked on a collaboration with American sneaker giant New Balance. Appearing for the second time in Miu Miu’s SS23’s campaign — their first capsule collection was presented as part of SS22 — the sneakers merge the souls of the two brands and condence their shared vernacular into one timeless collab.

Through three different iterations — bleached white leather, blue fringed denim and marble-effect cognac denim — the legendary 574 New Balance becomes a place of conversation between the brands, celebrating a shared vision to challenge archetypes of design and create layered characters.
