2. MUNA, Loudspeaker
MUNA get the video treatment here in a clip that sees the L.A. three-piece getting up to all sorts in an abandoned building. You can read about our love of the band here but, in the meantime, do as they say and put it high on the loudspeaker.
3. Manila Killa, Youth feat. Satica (Qrion remix)
Having reworked Aristophanes’ Peach Blossom a few months back, the Ryan Hemsworth collaborator turned her hand to this piece of heaven. Born and raised in the snowy city of Sapporo, the Japanese producer has toured the US this year and is currently working on her first album.
4. Geowulf, Saltwater
A little of the Hope Sandovals about this shimmering debut release by London-based, Australia-raised duo, Geowulf; recently signed to 37 Adventures and featuring on the label’s Odd Numbers Volume 1 compilation out next month.
5. Mykki Blanco, The Plug Won’t
Taken from Mykki’s much hyped forthcoming debut LP, the Jeremiah Meece-produced track that compares the highs of a party lifestyle to the feel of real love. Why do we need love? Who fucking needs love?
6. Boys Forever, Cold Is The Colour
Former Veronica Falls drummer Patrick Doyle trades Keith for L.A., in new project Boys Forever, updating the sparkle of the band’s very good second album Waiting for Something to Happen with a healthy dose of Californian insouciance.
7. Ratboy, Get Over It
Rat Boy goes Tarantino with his impressive new video. Riding through the desert in a fur-lined car built by his dad, young Jordan Cardy has dreamed up a world of diner hold-ups, frontier jailbreaks with supreme boltcutters, and Gorillaz style breakdowns accompanied by a well-dressed Mexican band. Directed, produced, animated and accessorised by the artist himself, the boy did good.
8. Thee MVPs, Lie Detector
A Billy Childish tribute by fellow Kent racket-makers Thee MVPs because, well, it’s Friday and why not? They’ve a new EP out next month too.
9. Sneaks, True Killer
While technically this is a reissue by US indie label Merge, it’s new to us and probably you too. With just her bass guitar and a drum machine, Eva Moolchan of Washington DC makes minimal post-punk as Sneaks. 1 minute 22 seconds of fun.
10. Massive Attack, Come Near Me
Written and produced by Daddy G and Stew Jackson with vocals from Ghostpoet, the genius collaboration is brought to life and then drowned in the accompanying low-lit, very intense short film from director Ed Morris.
