2, 4, 6, 8… we appreciate flight facilities!

Flight Facilities are the band behind the insta-blog classic Crave You, and they’ve kept the same dancefloor ready pace for their latest song Two Bodies, albeit with a more downtempo groove.

The duo behind the music, Hugo Gruzman and James Lyell, have fully embraced their band name, regularly performing in pilot outfits and dropping flight commentary into their mixtapes for that added touch of in-flight entertainment. We decided to treat them to our new 2,4,6,8 feature to help to grips with the people you need to know. Their debut album Down to Earth will be released on October the 27th through Glassnote Records.

2 influences
Hugo: Movies, it’s nice to think about a scene or scenario which you feel would fit.
Jimmy: Disney movies and shoes.

4 word motivational slogan
Hugo: We are Flight Facilities.
Jimmy: No, that doesn’t make any sense
Hugo and Jimmy: Flight Facilities, the long haul journey
(That’s five words, but we’ll let you off)

6 people you’d like to be trapped in a lift with
Hugo: I’d like to be trapped in a lift with three dead celebrities, like actual dead corpses. And three living ones and then we could have a hilarious game of whodunit.
Jimmy: It could actually take place in the Glassnote Records London lift. As it’s been broken for three months, that’d be quite a game. Lindsay Lohan would be on of the suspects for the game. She can do anything, I wouldn’t put it past her.
Hugo: Zed’s a fucking villain.
Jimmy: We also need a classic villain. A British villain, a classy one.
Hugo and Jimmy: CHARLES DANCE!

Jim Morrison
Tupac
Michael Jackson
Zed (Pulp Fiction)
Lindsay Lohan
Charles Dance

8 facts about Flight Facilities
1. If not doing music, Flight Facilities would be involved in “beauty pageants, or advertising” in a Mad Men style, of course.
2. Their childhood obsessions were “planes and climbing on shit”.
3. Hugo really hates art school. “There’s so much bullshit in it. You can’t just paint a cat and call it a cat. There can’t not be a deep seated message in the cat”. He hated it so much that he enrolled there and didn’t bother turning up. Jimmy, it turns out, hates art school even more. “I deferred three times. Art school would have been weird and hard and shit”.
4. They think that by being Australians people view them as “party animals” but would rather let the world decide.
5. They’re used to trolling journalists but “only to get more people interested in the music”. They don’t ever troll fans though “we would never do that to fans, we love our fans”.
6. The pilot uniforms that they play live in aren’t just rentals from a costume shop, the duo got them from Hugo’s grandfather who chartered flights and inspired the band’s name. Wearing them they become “different characters”. Hugo was “totally tempted” to become a pilot though Jimmy “never” caught the bug.
7. They are most scared of…”whoever killed those celebrities in the imaginary lift”.
8. Hugo’s best prank involved orchestrating a fake drug deal to scare some of his friends. “We’d also organised another friend down the street who had a cop uniform to come along, it was so extravagant”. He’s glad he did it though as it “definitely makes a great story”.
