21 Savage started his rap career last year, releasing a mixtape a minute on a resourcefully acquired laptop — it’s been a quick ascent to fame. Virgil Abloh started his career in 2002, when he began working for Kanye West, then spent the greater part of the last decade serving as Kanye’s creative director before launching his own label, Off-White. For their disparate backstories, the pair certainly share a mutual admiration for one-another.
After getting word that Abloh was a fan of the Atlanta rapper, Off-White stockists A Ma Maniére teed up a shoot. Fittingly, 21 Savage wore the label’s autumn/winter 2016 collection: the first collection Abloh ever presented in Paris during the menswear shows. In a sense, the season established the streetwear label as a grown up fashion player. Now, 21 Savage is wearing it for his first-ever fashion shoot. It’s a perfect pairing, really. We hope many more editorials will come from the rising star.
