Blanca Li at BAM
Blanca Li is the original renegade of dance. She’s studied with Martha Graham and created a flamenco rap band during the early days of hip-hop. She incorporates every style imaginable into her choreography, which might appear one year at the Metropolitan Opera, the next in a Pedro Almodovar movie or Beyoncé video. For her new show, ROBOT, she throws other tools from her arsenal – art and humor – into the mix. It’s a fantastical ballet in which humans and robots are the dancers and music is played on art-installation instruments.
Tuesday, June 9 to Sunday, June 14, at BAM, 30 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn.

Tyler, the Creator
Feeling down about the end of Odd Future? Seek comfort in a live performance by Tyler, the Creator. The controversial rapper is a modern-day renaissance man with a DIY punk sensibility, and has kept fans on their toes with not only his often self-produced music but also his design collaborations and sketch show (Adult Swim’s “Loiter Squad”). We’re never quite sure what to expect next from Tyler, so this show seems like a good opportunity to get in there and enjoy his sharp rhymes.

Alden Penner and Michael Cera
In case you missed it, the prince of mumblecore, Michael Cera, released an album last summer that was perfectly in line with his adorable music-nerd brand of hipsterdom, and it was refreshingly good. Cera brings lo-fi rock and experimental noise to the table in his collaboration with Alden Penner of the indie pop duo The Unicorns. After recording the song “Meditate” together, the two decided to hit the road, and will play Brooklyn’s Northside Festival Friday night so you can catch their charmingly weird sound.
Friday, June 12 at 11PM, at Knitting Factory, 361 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn.
