Fashion Icons Book Launch: Cindy Crawford
Having been at the helms of IMG and the CFDA in the past, Fern Mallis has encountered more than her fair share of fashion icons, especially through the interviews she’s frequently done at the 92nd Street Y. She’s recently compiled these interviews into a book, Fashion Lives: Fashion Icons with Fern Mallis, and for its launch, she’s sitting down with Cindy Crawford. The ageless model and designer will discuss her career and time in the original, real-deal super set, which was unbelievably about 25 years ago.

Sustainable Fashion: Past, Present and Future
In a time when the term “sustainable fashion” is only recently starting to mean clothes that aren’t completely granola, Jennifer Farley Gordon and MFIT associate curator of accessories Colleen Hill have compiled the history of eco-conscious design in a collaborative book, Sustainable Fashion: Past, Present and Future. Tied into an exhibit they did at the Museum at FIT in 2010, the book explores different methods of creating environmentally friendly fashion over the last 250 years. At their launch discussion, the two will talk about this background as well as the current and future options for making clothes even more sustainable.

Feelings Film Festival
Chloe Wise, the painter, sculptor, collagist and video artist you might know from these bags, is teaming back up with fellow Canadian art angel Adam Levett and harnessing the collective power of their downtown cool clique for the second Feelings Film Festival. The pair’s first foray into film was hosted back in February, and this Thursday, the duo are bringing FFF back. The festival is one of the only places you can see the video work of New York’s bright young things in one place, whether it’s a comedic short, a music piece or video art. Catch creations from FFF vets Michael Bailey Gates & Claire Christerson, Leo Gabin, Ali Michael and more.

Propaganda Magazine Party
Running from 1982 to 2002, photographer Fred Berger’s Propaganda was the longest running goth magazine in the U.S. Each issue delved into the music, art, literature, fashion and sexuality of goth culture, with occasional branch-outs into dark underworlds of drug and BDSM subcultures. To fete the magazine’s legacy, the Morbid Anatomy Museum will host a conversation with Berger and end the night with a party, in which guests can read from their goth diaries at an open mic or share photos from their goth teenage days.

Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band
When Yoko Ono released her debut album as The Plastic Ono Band with John Lennon in 1970, the avant garde recording was met with harsh reviews. But in the way that many boundary-pushing works have been misunderstood upon their premiers, the album has since been regarded as visionary and the influence for many female punk and alt singers. The band will take the stage this weekend at the Modern Sky Music Festival, an unmissable opportunity to see Yoko doing her thing with acts like Gang of Four and Mark Sultan supporting.
