The Aesthetics of Gender at MoMA
Conducted in the casual style of MoMA’s Gallery Sessions, which aim to encourage interactive conversation, this discussion will focus on how artists in different periods viewed and depicted gender. The talk will begin with works from the museum’s own collection — from the likes of Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Frida Kahlo. Did these artists conform to their society’s views, did they challenge them? These ideas, and any others you want to air, will all be on the table.

Monday, April 6 at 11:30AM at MoMA’s Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller Painting and Sculpture Gallery, 11 West 53rd Street.

    The Twin Peaks Disco
The fate of the anticipated Twin Peaks reboot is still hanging in the balance, but Passenger Bar will let you indulge your Lynch love in the mean time. On Wednesday night, the venue will transform into the Black Lodge for a dance party featuring “unsettling, Lynchian music” and projected footage from the cult show. To fuel your dancing, there will even be thematic snacks on hand, like cherry pie and butter-Brie-ham-maple sandwiches. Because why not?

Wednesday, April 8 at 8PM at Passenger Bar, 229 Roebling Street, Brooklyn.

The Pitchfork Review Issue #5 Release Party
In 2014, indie scene staple Pitchfork began releasing a quarterly print publication, a coffee table-worthy collection of music and culture writing and photography. Its fifth issue will feature must-reads like profiles and interviews with Björk, N.W.A., and Aphex Twin. To celebrate, there will be a party at WORD Bookstore and a discussion with another one of the issue’s stars, Fred Schneider of The B-52’s, making the night a little blip of musical history that you can be a part of.

Wednesday, April 8 at 7PM at WORD, 126 Franklin Street, Brooklyn.

City That Sleeps; An Investigation of New Yorkers’ Dreams
Presented by Smoke and Mirrors Collaborative, this collection of interviews is a chance to take part in a live podcast recording. Part performance and part recorded conversation, the episode looks at precognitive dreaming and features New Yorkers who somehow predicted the future in their dreams. Creators Monica Hunken and Jonathan David Martin will also weave in historical case studies and more contemporary phenomena. The subconscious-focused fun will be followed by drink specials and live music.

Thursday, April 9 at 7PM at Freddy’s Bar and Backroom, 627 Fifth Avenue, Brooklyn.

    Myths and Mutations
Curated by Chris Romero, this new show at Brooklyn’s REVERSE gallery features six artists who fuse video game characters, emojis and memes with more old-school cultural references. Standout pieces include Yaloopop’s animated video “Pink Fall Mountain With Ginseng Exercise” — in which pink virtual creatures perform South Korea’s Citizen Health Workout Routine — and Richie Brown’s fortune-telling cards, reinvented with emojis. Brown will be giving readings at the exhibition and explaining how to translate tarot cards featuring Santas, aliens and googly-eyed poo.

Opening Friday, April 9 at 10PM at REVERSE, 28 Frost Street, Brooklyn.
