Given how quick its biggest players were to open their wallets in the wake of the Notre-Dame fire last year, the fashion industry’s lack of similarly substantial material goodwill towards any of the causes publicised in the wake of George Floyd’s murder is glaring.

It’s not all disappointing news, though. While we’re still yet to see donations befitting the yearly profits these larger houses generate, numerous young independent brands have committed to do their part. Labels like ASAI, Eckhaus Latta, and Peter Do, for example, have pledged to match donations or donate the profits generated from the sales of certain items to a range of worthy causes, including bailout funds and community development initiatives.

Now, Samuel Ross‘s A-COLD-WALL* has stepped up. In a post on Instagram, the London-based brand has announced the distribution of £25k to independent Black-owned businesses, with 10 individual grants worth £2500 each available. They’ve also donated £10,000 via ActBlue to Black Lives Matter Financial Aid, to be distributed to people on the frontline, and further initiatives are to be announced shortly.
