Document Studios have created Timberland, a book about the boot and apparel makers. Editorial Director David Hellqvist and Art Director Mark Thompson have assembled a who’s who of menswear insiders to talk about their work with, or love of, the American brand. There’s strong imagery, including a photo essay on the New Hampshire landscape where the boots were born, a killer archive shot of The Roots at Phoenix Festival in the ’90s and a lads fashion story.

Collaborators who wax lyrical about Timbs include Stussy’s head designer Nick Bower, Visvim’s Hiroki Nakamura and indie footwear designer Ronnie Fieg; and shots of collaborators Supreme, Nom de Guerre, Billionaire Boys Club and White Mountaineering are on show. Fans who reveal their love of boots and boat shoes include designer Patrik Ervell, stylist Elgar Johnson, Soulland’s Silas Adler and Sunday Times Style’s Executive Fashion Director Richard Gray.

It’s an informative read too, with pieces on the subcultures that Timberland has found itself a part of. Olmes Carretti talks about Il Paninaro, “a specific list of initially hard to source labels, which was then teamed with an air of teenage aloofness and Latin machismo down at Il Panino cafĂ© in Milan” (namely Timberlands with Armani Jeans and Moncler jackets). Gary Aspden details the UK casuals and rave culture scene and Jason Jules discusses how the development of the brand’s workwear signalled the birth of an industrialised and modern America (and also styles it out, looking hot in the woods). The book is testament to Timberland’s continued relevance as they hit their stride in their 40s.
