A new exhibition is set to honour the memory of dazzlingly great couturier Azzedine Alaïa in January next year. It will fittingly open during Haute Couture Week in Paris at his studio, Galerie Alaïa, where he’s been preserving his work since 2007 alongside that of his partner, painter Christophe von Weyhe, and old friend Carla Sozzani. The exhibition will be curated by Olivier Saillard, the renowned fashion curator and historian who’s been the director of fashion museum Pallais Galleria since 2010, and who’s helmed blockbuster retrospectives for Balenciaga and Madame Grès.
On this side of the channel, the exhibition Azzedine Alaïa, The Couturier will be opening at the London Design Museum in the Spring, in tandem with the opening of the first London flagship store for the house, at 139 New Bond Street. While the designer’s passing earlier this year came as a massive blow to the industry, it’s great to see his legacy living on.
