In a rowdy backstage interview on Tim Westwood TV (who knew that existed!?), A$AP Rocky says how much he “fucks with London” and talks about his plans to move to posho Mayfair. “They don’t know who I am over there. They don’t care about me, so that’s why I love it,” he says. Westwood’s joke about Rocky’s presence bringing down the house prices down almost falls flat, but A$AP gives him the benefit of the doubt and jokes about getting his homies into the neighbourhood, driving out the existing rich and making it affordable.
Rocky and Westwood are pure banter: after Rocky says tall Westwood makes him look small, Westwood replies, “I might make you look small, but you always make me feel ugly…you make me feel busted, baby!” Diplo and the Major Lazer crew crash the interview and all have lots to say about the recent Red Bull Culture Clash, where the A$AP Mob (along with BBK and Stone Love) lost out to Dave Rodigan’s Rebel Sound.
Rocky admits, “I didn’t know how to clash, apparently” and then has this to say about Roddigan: “He’s a legend, but he’s old as hell! I’m just joking bro. I’m just mad coz you beat us.” The Harlem rapper challenges Rebel Sound to a rematch, (but next time on home turf in New York City) and says he’s going to do his homework and call in favours from Jamaica’s Beenie Man, Elephant Man, Vybez Cartel and Buju Banton.
Rocky is also full of love for UK grime talent Giggs, Skepta, Novelist and Meridian Dan. But the chat ends with some sombre talk as Westwood asks him about the death of his friend A$AP Yams. Watch the full clip here:
