At the end of a big year, we asked people how they’re working for a brighter 2017.

Do you consider yourself politically active?
Not in any great way, but I try to be informed as much as possible.

Do you think everything that’s going down in the US matters to you as an Australian?
I think it does, but only to a certain extent. That being that, given the results of the election, it validates certain potentially harmful policies and ideals. People who are in power here are now coming out in support of Trump and that’s potentially a way that I might be affected.

Do you plan on making any changes in your own life following the election results?
I’m making more of an effort than I have been of being conscious of what people think and feel, and how that affects their decisions and their lives. I guess you could say the election isn’t going to be a good time for everyone so I want to make sure there’s more of an effort on my part to support people in the right way when they need it. Especially the groups made most vulnerable by Trump’s rhetoric and policy.

How would you sum up 2016?
Tumultuous. Relentlessly so.

If you could pick anyone in the world to be the President who would it be?
My Nan. She’s a top chick.
