Photographer Alexandra Leese is currently in lockdown at her home in London. Her experience can best be described, like many of us, as “up and down”. Job-wise all commercial work has come a complete standstill, but small projects like “I Miss You IRL” — presented as part of her Quarantine in Photos for i-D — are keeping her active. “The photos are for and about those I miss the most during this period,” she says. “They’re interlaced with images from nature, which symbolise transformation, darkness and light, a kind of metaphor for what we are experiencing as a human race and individually. All images taken through the internet or a screen. A snapshot of here and now. ” Aside from this, Alexandra has been trying to enjoy the stillness of this moment. “Taking time for myself has been really important,” she says. “It’s forced me to slow right down, and learn to be ok with that. I think that’s a valuable lesson I have learned from this situation. It really helps to take that solitude and quiet to recognise yourself and what’s really important… this can in turn inform your creativity.” The things keeping her sane? “My cat, books, Netflix, photography, walks, Facetime and plenty of food.”
