We haven’t seen Alicia Keys since 2012, when Girl on Fire debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. That being said, it’s hard to go a few weeks without hearing Girl on Fire or Empire State of Mind on the radio. Chances are, in these interim years, she’s been busy at home; where she and Swizz Beatz are raising two children. Their eldest, five-year-old Egypt, has become somewhat of a musical prodigy. He’s even got his own production credit on Kendrick Lamar’s record Untitled Unmastered. Not long after the Kendrick joint came about, a remarkable clip Swizz posted of Eygpt on the beat made its way around the web.
Not one to be outshone, Alicia’s returned with a new single, In Common: a sign of things to come. The dancefloor ready beat distracts from the heavy lyrics: “if you could love somebody like me, you must be messed up too.” Her sixth LP will come out later this year—hopefully, Eygpt will get a production credit on there too.
