If you’re planning a trip to Frisco, don’t count on visiting the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMoMA) to discover its stunning collection of post-war modern art masterpieces – head to Paris instead. The west coast museum has been closed for expansion since 2013, so is sending 49 masterpieces on tour since, stopping for two and a half months at the Grand Palais.
The works were chosen from more than 1110 pieces by 185 artists gathered by Donald and Doris Fischer – who opened the first Gap store in 1969. In Paris, you’ll be able to admire outstanding works by 14 American artists known for their contribution to abstract, pop, minimalism, conceptual and pictorial art among them. From Sol LeWitt to Cy Twombly, Roy Lichenstein to Andy Warhol.
American icons, runs till June 22nd at Grand Palais.
