The hype surrounding the impending arrival of comedy goddess, feminist icon and all round ‘bad bitch’, Amy Schumer, for the downunder premiere of her first feature film, ‘Trainwreck’ was already reaching feverish levels. Those levels are now set to melt as the angels at Penny Drop and Laneway Presents just announced that Schumer will perform a very special, one night only stand up show at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall.
Schumer has long used her stand up to comment on the double-standards women are continually subjected to and with her Comedy Central hit show, ‘Inside Amy Schumer’ and the Judd Apatow directed ‘Trainwreck’ she continues to smash the patriarch on a global level, whilst been the funniest person on screen. Case in point: ‘Last Fuckable Day’, the most notable sketch of her shows’ last season, which depicted a toast to actress Julia Louis Dreyfus’ last day of sex appeal in Hollywood. The viral sketch which co-starred Tina Fey, Patricia Arquette and Louis-Dreyfus as themselves saw the veteran performers warn Schumer of her fate in a land that deems women ‘unfuckable’ after 30.
In addition to her own TV show, feature film and stand up tour in 2015, HBO just announced they will premiere Schumer’s very first one-hour comedy special directed by Chris Rock later this year….but Melbourne gets to see her live next week!
