Digital grief takes many forms.

Since David Bowie passed away this week, the internet has been awash with emotional outpourings as fans struggle to come to terms with his sudden passing. While most have kept it confined to social media posts, an Italian change.org page has been set up rejecting the legend’s death and petitioning God (or whom it may concern) to return him to us.

Created by Rome-based Andrea Natella, the goal has been set at 5,000 signatures, though we’re not sure any number would perform the thus-far impossible task of reanimation. So far it has received 3,860.

Not surprisingly the effort has gathered considerable social media attention. Although it’s undeniably bizarre, it does appear to come from a good place. Unlike other celebrity deaths, which can sometimes lead to some pretty macabre social media pranks. Twitter was famously forced to review their policies after Robin Williams’ daughter was harassed by trolls pretending to be her late father and posting photoshopped images of his body.

For now, this petition appears to be part of the grieving process for a particularly heartbroken fan. Hey, we all have to work through our shit somehow.
