Rumour had it that Caitlyn Jenner might be making an appearance in the second season of the award-winning show Transparent, but so far, zero confirmation. But one big name who is joining the cast is Hollywood superstar, Anjelica Huston. The show’s creator, Jill Soloway told Variety that Huston will be playing a new friend to main character Maura (played by Jeffrey Tambor, who just picked up an award for lead actor in a comedy series at the Emmys). And it’s not a flash in the pan cameo either: “Maybe she’ll be back for Season 3,” Soloway said. “They have a lot of chemistry… palpable chemistry!” She’s also said that the next season, which includes performances from Hari Nef, Kiersey Clemons and Petra Collins, will be “wild” and “wacky.”
The show has been praised for its portrayal of trans people, admired for its intersectionality and celebrated by critics. It’s been a badge of honour for Amazon Prime, the streaming service that is hoping to make inroads into the Netflix market with an offering of films and original programming. When accepting her award for outstanding directing for a comedy series at last night’s Emmys, Soloway was dismissive of the idea that the new trans visibility in popular culture is really changing things. “We don’t have a trans tipping point,” Soloway said. “We have a trans civil rights problem.” She also rallied for support of a trans equality bill that will offer greater protections for the community.
