Following collections from J.W. Anderson and Christopher Kane for Versus Versace, Vaccarello was the one that stuck. “There’s something about Anthony’s work that made me notice it immediately,” Donatella Versace told us about the Belgian designer last season. “He cuts with such boldness, passion and freedom, and he loves to make women look and feel their best.” It’s clear from his spring/summer 14 collection that this young designer has the DNA of the brand down to a tee, perfectly fitting the equation of Versace + Vaccarello = Versus Versace. “The house has such a strong identity, it’s very fun to play with,” said Vaccarello. “I did it how I think Versus should be today, with all my memories of the brand in my head. I tried to base the collection on these souvenirs.” He will continue to report to Donatella, who will remain as Artistic Director, and his first collection in his new role will be shown for autumn/winter 15.
