Norfolk Island is a self-governing island off the east coast of Australia recently awarded the honour of being able to cultivate a large proportion of Canada’s medical-grade cannabis. With a climate deemed perfect for growing the weed, the island’s government and the company in charge of the delicate horticultural process, AusCann, see it as a ‘valuable economic opportunity for the territory’ and expect the exchange will lead to a multimillion dollar export industry by 2016.
Despite its international popularity, it’s completely illegal to use marijuana for medicinal purposes in Australia so don’t expect any of the projected 10 tonne harvest to stay in the country but do expect some of those profits to go into some state of the art security systems.
