He’s a freshly minted member of Alexander Wang’s #WANGSQUAD, but Baauer is assembling quite an impressive squad of his own as he gears up for the March 18 drop of his much-anticipated new album. Earlier this week he debuted the track “Temples,” featuring M.I.A. and G-Dragon, at Wang’s fall/winter 16 runway show at New York Fashion Week. Now he’s dropped the ferocious video for “Day Ones” featuring MC Leikeli47 and London grime star Novelist. Baauer first premiered the single on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last month.
Directed by Hiro Murai, the new video features two troops of heavily armed men clashing in a cinematic confrontation in a dimly lit parking lot. “And when you in your hood and everybody counting cream / I’m talking cash ruling everything around me / Still riding with your day ones? / Let me hear you scream!” the enigmatic Leikeli47 spits as cracking gunshots ripple through the evocative scene.
