Everything we know about Billie Eilish’s third album

It's been over two years since 'Happier Than Ever'. A follow-up, Billie has confirmed, is on the way. But when?

Billie Eilish is two for two with hit records, and in the years that have passed since dropping Happier Than Ever in 2021, the musician has managed to remain a pivotal figure in pop. The tour for that aforementioned album ran for a long time, and in between dates she was releasing off-shoot singles — including the five-time Grammy and Golden Globe nominated Barbie track, “What Was I Made For?”. That she’s had time to work on a third album is surprising.

But it’s true: she recently told the US radio network Westwood One that “a whole album of new music” was on the way. So what does it sound like? What’s it called? Will she tour it? And when will it be released? Here’s everything we know about Billie Eilish’s forthcoming third album.

What has Billie Eilish said about her third album?

Not a great deal, unsurprisingly. Billie has a habit of keeping her cards close to her chest when it comes to new music. Even the revelation on Westwood One’s The Cookout was rare: “There is lots of music coming,” she said. “There is a whole album of music coming and we’re in the final stages of making it — so that doesn’t mean its about to come out, but it is getting there and it’s very exciting.”

What will Billie Eilish’s third album sound like?

While we don’t know, fans have been hypothesising that her recent hair change, dark with red roots, is reflective of the forthcoming album’s aesthetic. Of course, she went toxic green for When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and peroxide blonde for Happier Than Ever. This, paired with her more 90s-esque punkish style lately, has some thinking she’s making guitar music for 2024. After all, the title track on Happier Than Ever, which leant into those sounds, was the record’s biggest hit.

“Everything is different about it,” she said of how the record is coming together on Dua Lipa’s Service 95 podcast. “I’ve been trying to compare recently, just because I’m getting used to doing it in a different way. And trying to be like, ‘It’s OK to do that. I’m OK. I’m still able to do that; I’m capable still.’”

What’s the name of Billie Eilish’s third album?

This we don’t know! Sometimes Instagram captions are a good way of predicting these things. Maybe it’s “ur never there” or “i’m somewhere else”?

Does Billie Eilish’s third album have a tracklist?

All we know at this point is that Billie prefers longer tracklists: WWAFA,WDWG was 14 tracks long; Happier Than Ever had 16 tracks. Maybe she’ll pull a 180 and give us eight songs for round three?

When will Billie Eilish’s third album be released?

Sometime in 2024 seems likely, considering she was in the “final stages” of making it this year.

Will Billie Eilish tour her third album in 2024?

We don’t know if she’ll hit the road in 2024, but a tour is almost certain. In support of her debut album, Billie scheduled 118 shows (50 of these were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic). For Happier Than Ever, she played 88. Rest assured, if your fingers are fast enough to nab the tickets, you’ll be able to see Billie perform live for her third album.
