Dev Hynes has released a beautiful new video for I Know, one of the standout tracks from his spectacular latest Blood Orange album, Freetown Sound. Like best mate Solange, Hynes has incorporated contemporary dance into the clip, teaming up with the Russian dancer Maria Kochetkova, who is prima ballerina at both the San Francisco Ballet and the American Ballet Theater, and is known for her love of fashion, posting pictures of herself in fresh Gosha Rubchinskiy looks to her 156k Instagram followers, as @balletrusse.
Don’t fear if contemporary dance isn’t your usual thing — the film isn’t sombre and serious. Instead, Hynes and Kochetkova practice in a mirrored dance studio, occasionally cracking smiles as they work on the choreography, which was also devised by Juri Onuki, a dancer who has performed in Blood Orange stage shows. Dev Hynes directed the video himself along with filmmaker and Cable frontwoman Tracy Antonopoulos.
