There’s been more movement in the #FreeBritney case

The journey to making Britney’s conservatorship fair continues.

There’s new updates regarding Britney Spears’ conservatorship. On Wednesday (17 March), Britney’s lawyer Samuel D Ingham III revealed that they will file a petition to request Jodi Montgomery’s temporary position as Britney’s co-conservator is reinstated and made permanent, meaning her father Jamie Spears has less control.

Jodi Montgomery, a California fiduciary (a conservator, but make it her job) stepped in back in 2019, during a period in which Jamie took a break for health reasons. Earlier that year, Jamie had been Britney’s sole conservator, following the resignation of former co-conservator, Andrew Wallet.

Jodi — who according to her website, is “strongly committed to meeting the particular needs of conservatees and special needs trust beneficiaries, and protecting them from all forms of physical and financial abuse” — has remained Britney’s care manager after her conservator contract ended on 31 January 2020. But, if this petition is filed and accepted, she would sit alongside Jamie Spears as co-conservator.

This pre-existing relationship, and court statements made by Britney’s lawyers, would suggest that Britney trusts Jodi more than her father, who she’s been trying to remove from his 13-year-long position as her conservator since last August. In November, that decision was denied. However, following a court hearing shortly after the Framing Britney Spears documentary aired in February, the financial institution Bessemer Trust has been instated as co-conservator.

This petition will be reviewed on 27 April, so hopefully progress will follow soon after.
