Georgia and Caleb Nott are siblings who have managed be best mates and musical partners. Their group BROODS came onto everyone’s radar in 2014 with Evergreen, an album of sentimental, shiny synth pop tracks—and a flood of incredible music videos for good measure. Now the pair are gearing up for a sophomore release, and their latest single Free suggests it’ll be a big departure from their debut album. There’s also a L.A relocation going down, so since it’s goodbye to the Antipodes for now, we wanted to say goodbye. Right before Georgia and Caleb hopped on their long-haul flight, we rang them up to find out what they’ll miss most about New Zealand, how their next album is shaping up and what the secret is to getting along so damn well with your sibling. Here’s how they sounded off.

On what they’ll miss about home…
Caleb: Good Coffee and family.
Georgia: L.A has good coffee if you know how to ask for it—make sure they don’t put a whole cup of milk in. It’s being so far from family will definitely be the hardest thing.

On friends in L.A…
Georgia: We’ve been over there so many times in the past few years so we’ve made many a friend—but there’s so many Kiwi musos there too.
Caleb: So many Kiwis there!
Georgia: Obviously our producer Joel Little is our favourite! [laughs] We’ve got lots of friends there; the Naked and Famous guys are great and Kimbra’s there. Something about having Kiwis around feels very homely. We have the luxury of having a really solid crew over there.

On getting along…
Georgia: That’s just how it is in our family. We’re all very close, it’s how we were brought up—not just me and Caleb.
Caleb: We could actually work with any of our siblings, we all get along.

On crossover collaborations…
Caleb: I really wanna collaborate with Kanye. I don’t know whether that would ever happen, or whether I’d even enjoy it, but I really admire what he does with production.
Georgia: It would be really cool to work with people from different genres like hip-hop. I love folk music too, I’d love to work with Marlon Williams.

On a new album…
Caleb: There’s definitely an album coming this year. We’re just finishing it off now.
Georgia: We’ve been working really hard!

On their new single Free
Georgia: We were so keen to get this song out, waiting was torture. It’s definitely got a different vibe to the songs on [our first album] Evergreen. When we wrapped up the that album and start working on new tracks it was the first song that made us say “Wow, we wanna show this to people!” It’s not like songs on the other album, which were like 50% Caleb, 50% Georgia. It’s like, 100% Caleb and 100% Georgia.
