It doesn’t take a hip-hop head to know Cam’ron is the Patron Saint of Pink. After pulling up to New York Fashion Week in 2002 rocking all pink mink, the Harlem rap legend continued to sport salmon shades, whether lacing his Diplomats piece with pink jewels or famously rolling in a rosey Range Rover. But Killa Cam didn’t just think pink; in 2004, he dropped his fourth studio album, Purple Haze, and proved he had enough closet space for amethyst hues, too.
Earlier this year, Cam released a video for “U Wasn’t There,” the lead single from his widely rumored final album, Purple Haze 2. According to The Fader, the rapper will team the musical release with a Reebok collaboration. “I got a deal with Reebok,” he told the magazine last week on the road to the company’s Boston headquarters. “We’re doing all the finishing touches on it right now.”
Few details exist, but reportedly, “the shoe will be purple with a contrasting pink insole,” and in keeping with Purple Haze‘s (a play on the weed strain), marijuana motif, Cam plans to release the sneaker on April 20. Watch this space for updates on both the album and Reebok collab.
