It’s the second biggest street festival in the world. The largest celebration of black music on the planet. And now, for the first time in its 50-year history, Notting Hill Carnival will be broadcast live to your screen, wherever in the world you are.
In collaboration with legendary London sound systems Rampage, Deviation, and Channel One, Boiler Room will be livestreaming over 42 hours worth of performances, showcasing the best in British black music from the event on Sunday and Monday, August 28 and 29. With backing from Guinness, Notting Hill Carnival Trust, and the British Association of Sound Systems, the aim is that the livestream will usher in a new era of sustainable support for Carnival, reaching a worldwide audience that has been largely underserved by traditional coverage.
Boiler Room founder Blaise Bellville says: “Notting Hill Carnival is probably the biggest and best celebration of contemporary black music in the world and is vastly under recognized. It is extraordinary to us that other much smaller events like Glastonbury are given weekend long live coverage from major broadcasters and media. Meanwhile Notting Hill Carnival is 50 years into its history and Boiler Room and Guinness will be the first broadcaster and brand to ever give it support and coverage at the scale that we are.”
He continues: “Notting Hill Carnival should be celebrated as one the most important contemporary black music events in the world, it should be shouted about with pride as a sign of UK music and cultural diversity, of police behavior, so many things that make this a vastly under appreciated event.”
