Casey Legler’s more than a jack-of-all-trades: first an Olympic swimmer, then an artist and author, Casey was also the first female signed to Ford Models’ mens board. And until now, Casey has exclusively fronted mens campaigns. Australian activewear label THE UPSIDE features Casey in ‘Be You’, their latest womenswear campaign. While it’s Casey’s first women’s campaign, she hasn’t changed a thing. The message is clear: looking traditionally feminine has nothing to do with being a woman. Legler explained why the campaign matters:
“This culture has a particular story about women and what that’s supposed to look like. If you don’t fit into that narrative then it’s a struggle, no matter what end of the spectrum you land on. This is one of the reasons why ‘Be You’ is helpful in that it widens space that women can take up.”
