Nike Air Jordan’s first hit stores in March 1985, changing the face of basketball and sport forever. Immortalised by a logo, no other sports star has managed to become a household icon in the way that Michael Jordan has. To celebrate this 30 year anniversary, Nike combined the talents of Michael Jordan, Tinker Hatfield and Mark Parker to reinvent the classic Air Jordan with two new styles, packaging them up as a two-pair MTM Pack.
Nike invited i-D to drink, dance and be merry in Paris to celebrate the launch with Michael and a bevy of his most fabulous friends. Michael Jordan joined the party at Hotel Du Ville in Paris to whoops and cheers from the intimate crowd that included Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing and model Binx Walton. He introduced us to the Air Jordan XX9 and the newest version of the Air Jordan 1 both beautifully reimagined versions of the the original.
The Air Jordan 1 adopts Nike’s flyweave in black and grey while the Air Jordan XX9 uses one piece leather construction to transform the exterior of the shoe. The MTM pack will be available exclusively at the Nike Lab P75 starting June 13 and select Jordan retailers on June 27.
