celebrating phoebe: the true style queen of ‘friends’

    Five totally on-point Phoebe looks.

Over its decade long run, Friends gave us an abundance of quintessentially 90s and early 2000s style moments. But while Rachel was the show’s ‘fashion enthusiast’, and Monica served as the resident badass (she was also the first actress ever to say ‘period’ on national TV), Phoebe’s neurotic charm and zeitgeisty looks make her Friends‘ true style queen.

Since the series ended in 2004 she has slowly attracted the credit she deserves, even inspiring her own Tumblr phoebebuffaystyle—the sign of a true legend. But with the recent news that the Friends cast will reunite for a two hour NBC special airing on February 21 we thought we’d join the fan freak-outs by celebrating our five favourite Phoebe outfits.

From the pinstripes—which let’s face it, are everything—to the layering, this look is totally reminiscent of the latest Vetements show. And with her un-styled blond locks, Phoebe could easily have nabbed a place on the catwalk.

I feel like we’ve all tried (and occasionally succeeded) to shut it down by rocking up in this look. The satin, semi-oriental-inspired jacket is so Kim Jones’ latest Louis Vuitton show it hurts.

Is this from Friends or a Centre for Style opening? From the patchwork, to the skirt, the boots, and that huge necklace, it’s grunge in the most perfect Marc Jacobs circa Perry Ellis Spring/Summer 1993 way.

This colour co-ordination is so on point it would fit nicely into the super-stylised looks that have been all over my Instagram feed lately. I was half-expecting her to be wearing Margiela tabi boots.

Are the leggings Jean Paul Gaultier? I’m literally going to wear this to work tomorrow.
