The thumbs up, four leaf clovers and cat faces have never looked so chic.

Paying homage to couture salons of the past, Karl Lagerfeld presented Chanel’s fall/winter 16 collection to guests at the Grand Palais des Champs Élysées yesterday. This time there were no air hostesses escorting patrons to their seats; instead, guests received hand-scribed cards and were settled in their front-row—and front-row only—seats as Binx and Kendall walked a carpet as white as Choupette Lagerfeld’s fur.

The decision to arrange the seating to allow everyone a front row place ensured the audience were close enough to appreciate all the details of the clothes. We also assume Karl wanted to make sure guests spotted the sneaky emoji motifs hidden in his waves of silk and tweed. Blouses were decorated with peace symbols, thumbs up, four leaf clovers and cats, while necklaces featured Internet-inspired diamanté charms.

This isn’t the first time Karl has flirted with emojis. In 2014, the app emotiKarl allowed users to send a variety of cute cats and leather gloved hand gestures to friends. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed they keep the line of inspiration going through the Spring/Summer collection. We’d love to see what Karl does with the taco.
