Santigold has released another new single from her hotly-anticipated album 99¢, which is scheduled for release on February 26 now, having been delayed by a month. “Banshee” is a bright, energetic club track with somewhat jangly percussion and synths that is perhaps a product of working with the ex-Vampire Weekend multi-instrumentalist and producer Rostam Batmanglij.
“Banshee on my shoulder / And I ain’t gon get no sleep tonight / Say you doing what I told ya / And the trouble is that she ain’t right / Tell you get out of my way / Don’t wanna hear what you say,” Santi White sings of the Irish folkloric creature that is said to feed on sadness in the middle of the night, banishing it with the lines, “Let me play with fire tonight (come on) / Dancing to the siren alright (come on) / Rip it up I’m having a good time / There’s nothing about it okay”.
Having been treated to the Motown-inflected single “Can’t Get Enough of Myself” and dreamy slow jam “Who Be Lovin’ Me” with ILOVEMAKKONEN back in November, and plinky piano track “Chasing Shadows” in January, we can’t wait to hear what Santi has in store on the rest of 99¢.
