Jamie xx has finally dropped a video for I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times), his anthem featuring Young Thug and Popcaan that we’ve been bumping all summer. Reflecting the far-flung global talent on the track — and the fact that great songs can be made when people don’t even meet (Thugger Thugger has never hung out with Popcaan) — the trio never appear together in the clip. Instead, we see Jamie DJing and the other two on rooftops in New York and Jamaica. There’s also a fabulous appearance from a multi-colored swimming pool with “Good Times” stamped on the bottom. The video is yet another example of the new wave of random-drop videos, that come out in their own sweet time.
Today will also see the premiere of Skepta’s much-hyped remix of the track, featuring Frisco and Popcaan. It will receive its first full play this evening, when Annie Mac plays it on Radio 1 as her “Hottest Record In The World” on BBC Radio 1 between 7pm and 9pm.
Jamie xx is also DJing throughout Europe and North America and playing his biggest UK headline show yet at London’s 5000 capacity O2 Academy Brixton on October 15.
