Good news for those let down by Drake’s Scorpion and in need of a mellow summer jam or two. Donald Glover has just dropped a feel-good double whammy of Childish Gambino tracks in one heatwave-ready Summer Pack. Track one, “Summertime Magic,” is a steel drum love song topped with DG’s lovelorn vocals, crooning “You took this heart of mine / You’ll be my Valentine in the summer.” (Me please!) Track two, “Feels Like Summer,” is reminiscent of 2014’s “Sober,” off his Kauai mixtape, slowing right things down before ending with a ever-welcome dose of falsetto. Ideal.
The two songs are the first we’ve heard from Donald since he dropped the iconic “This Is America” and its acclaimed Hiro Murai-directed video back in May. Though a welcome surprise, fans have been left wondering what happened to “Saturday,” the song he performed live when hosting SNL back in May. Let’s hope this means a follow-up to his critically-acclaimed 2016 album, Awaken! My Love any day now.
