Free the Nipple members Brit Hoagland and group member Samantha Six have filed a lawsuit against the city of Fort Collins in Colorado, for what they’ve described as “sexist”, “puritanical” and “unconstitutional” rules regarding women’s rights to bare their breasts in public. Back in October, the city council rejected the idea that women could freely expose their breasts, which means that, as it stands, women could face imprisonment of up to 180 days and a fine of up to $2,650 for breaking local laws, while men are free to go topless “without fear of arrest or prosecution.”
Hoping the city will follow in the footsteps of Denver, Boulder, and New York, all of which have recognized women’s rights to appear topless, Hoagland told The Denver Post, “I’m extremely excited that the legal ball is finally rolling.” Fingers crossed!
