Of all the disturbing dance-centric movies that came out in 2018 (there were a few), none captured the public’s attention quite like Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria remake. The Call Me By Your Name director’s reimagining of the beloved 1977 Italian horror movie was easily one of the most talked about films of the year, dividing fans and critics. As it turns out, one person who was not a huge fan of the remake is Dario Argento, the director of the original Suspiria.

According to Indiewire, Dario recently spoke to an Italian radio show and when asked about Luca’s remake said, “it did not excite me, it betrayed the spirit of the original film: There is no fear, there is no music. The film has not satisfied me so much.” Despite his dissatisfaction with the remake, Dario went on to clarify that he does consider Luca “a fine person” and called the film “refined”.

Whether Luca will be phased by Dario’s comments seems unlikely, in an interview with Deadline back in mid-2018 he was asked whether the original director had seen his film. “Dario saw the movie. He is one of our associate producers. I had a very good call with him about it. But it’s up to him to say what he thought about it,” he replied.
