Dilara Findikoglu’s spring/summer 18 show was a captivating ode to the occult. The 26-year-old designer booked out a church and sent messy haired, mohawked, and devil horned models down the runway dripping in pagan and witchy symbols. Members of her model coven included i-D’s alternative beauty queen Grace Neutral, Ru Paul’s Drag Race winner Violet Chachki, singer Brooke Candy, and club kid Sussi.
With the combination of a church location and pagan (as well as Christian) themes, it’s unsurprising that some took offence. But there’s ‘taking offence’ and ‘taking it way too far and going off on completely ridiculous, hateful, self-satisfying rant’. Alex Jones, the host of alt-right radio and YouTube monstrosity InfoWars, posted a video which lambasts Dilara’s work as being fit for a “satanist orgy,” and part of a conspiracy of satanists that Jones claims are, “powering the drug cartels in Mexico… powering the Vatican,” who are “weak scum trying to play god and trying to run our lives”.
“Now they have fashion shows with people dressed up as you’d dress up for a Satanic orgy right out of Eyes Wide Shut,” he gurns, raving that “this itself is an act of Satanism, to carry out a Satanic ritual in a church,” and adding, “The only thing better is to kill a child”.
Dilara had the perfect response to such a gross and moronic statement, Instagramming a picture of herself with the caption, “I pray your Jesus to heal your souls filled with hatred”. Amen.
