Have you ever thought to yourself, stainless steel is nice, sure, but it’s not opulent enough? No? We hadn’t either, until we saw these fridges built by the Swiss company Smeg, painted by Milanese fashion house Dolce & Gabbana—how worlds collide.
Each fridge is decorated by hand, numbered (as one of 100) and priced at €30,000. They’re calling them the Frigoiferos d’Arte, or Art Fridges. That seems fair. Honestly, these are beautiful. There are a lot of medieval battle scenes and Italian family crests, all painted in the style of Italian marionette theatres and traditional Sicilian horse-pulled carriages. “These are really the perfect collector’s pieces,” Gabbana toldVogue.
They will debut at the Salone del Mobile next week, an event which you might know better as the Milan Furniture Fair.
