Wow, so you know how “SUGAR” from Brockhampton’s 2019 album Ginger was already the standout track of a perfect record? What could possibly top it? Well, the LA boyband just released a remix of the Ryan Beatty-featuring single with a smoky, introspective verse from your fave neighbourhood popstar, Dua Lipa. There’s a nice visualiser (the next best thing to a video) too, featuring Matt stuck sitting on top of a basketball hoop for the whole 3:45 minutes of the song as the California sun slowly sets behind him. How did he get up there? Will he ever get down?
Also out this week is Rina Sawayama’s new single “XS”… as in, excess, get it? Keep following her delicious trail of singles as we edge ever closer to her debut album release. Get 17 April in your diaries! “APESHIT” (not that one) by Londoner Bree Runway is an exciting development for UK music and Missy Elliott fans everywhere. The video, you see, is an ode to the iconic rapper, while the single is an empowering clapback to everybody who ever told her that she was ‘too much’. We premiered it and had a nice chat with the artist here.
Lauren Auder’s new EP two caves in is out today. You’ll find their touching single “the shepherd” in the playlist, alongside “The Steps” by HAIM, Aitch and AJ Tracy’s much-requested collaboration, “The One” by prodigious brothers that rock The Lemon Twigs, and Lil Uzi Vert — not with an album, but with a riff on the Backstreet Boys. Plus, important new stuff from Megan Thee Stallion, Aussie angels Cub Sport, Kelora, Empress Of, HAWA, Lauv and more. Have fun.
