The heyday of the supers in the late 80s and early 90s saw models become superstars. The names Cindy, Stephanie, Linda and Naomi were known the world over and mere mortals were in awe of their beauty and grace, as well as their jet-set lifestyles. The man engineering these models’ meteoric rise to stardom was John Casablancas, the founder of Elite Model Management, who founded the agency in 1971 and who had many of the era’s top girls on their books.
Casablancas also made headlines himself as a notorious playboy and ruthless businessman. Before his death in 2013, John Casablancas invited his friend and Director Hubert Woroniecki to New York, to share his story of one of the most glamourous times in fashion. Now a new film, aptly titled Casablancas The Man Who Loved Womem, produced Realitism Films, offers footage taken from Casablancas’ personal archives, and combines it with inspired animated sequences and narration by John recorded his death.
Whilst the editing of the film is complete, a Kickstarter appeal has been created by Hubert Woroniecki to help with distribution and sound and visual post-production. Poignantly, Casablancas appealed for as much support for Woroniecki to finish the film that he believed would act “as a fun walk down memory lane for those who lived in the exciting 70s, 80s and 90s.” Even if it was before your time, the film offers a nostalgic look at a time in fashion we most likely will never see again!
