Good news: Elliot Page is the executive producer of an Italian documentary following the female-to-male transition of four friends between their mid-20s and mid-30s. The news was shared by Variety earlier this week. The documentary, called Nel Mio Nome (meaning “In My Name”) was conceived by the Italian director Nicolò Bassetti — known in Italy for having written the script for the Gianfranco Rosi doc, Sacro GRA. Nicolò’s new movie is inspired by his own experience as father to Matteo, his transgender son.

The doc will follow a group of four trans male friends — Nic, Leo, Andrea and Raf — who met in Bologna after each had started transitioning. Sounds to us like a coming-of-age story of friendship the world sorely needs.

The movie, which will premiere at the Berlinale in February, impressed Elliot Page with its profound analysis of the different shades that form human identity. “What stands out to me about Nel Mio Nome is the way it so artfully and intentionally presents all the different pieces that make up a person’s identity,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a meditation on trans humanity, and I’ve never seen another film like it. Knowing that Bassetti consulted closely with his trans son throughout production is so beautiful to me, and I think that lived experience and input is clear in the film’s perspective. I’m honored to be on board and can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
