Sometimes it seems like not a day goes by without an ill-advised celebrity comment or tweet (Amanda Bynes, Drake, never forget). But we can’t say we saw this particular feud coming: Elton John and Dolce & Gabbana are officially at war, after the designers aired their views about in vitro fertilization and gay adoption.
Published last week in a piece in Italy’s Panorama magazine, the duo’s remarks include: “We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one” and “I call children of chemistry, synthetic children.”
Elton and his husband, David Furnish, have two children together, who were both conceived via IVF. And last night, the singer took to Instagram to announce a campaign to #BoycottDolceandGabbana. He wrote below a picture of the designers: “Shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF — a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfill their dream of having children.”
Though Stefano spoke out yesterday to assure the world “We do believe in freedom and love,” Dolce & Gabbana is still trending hard on Twitter (propelled by tweets from Elton supporters) and celebrities from Courtney Love to Ricky Martin have expressed their solidarity with the Rocket Man.
