Actresses including Carey Mulligan, Kristen Stewart, Emily Browning, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Anna Kendrick (to name a few) have all criticised the lack of interesting female roles in Hollywood, but Emma Watson’s latest role in Colonia looks anything but damsel in distress. In fact the tables are turned on the typical male-hero-saves-trapped-princess storyline, and this time it’s Lena (Emma Watson) rescuing her boyfriend Daniel (Daniel Brühl) from Colonia Dignidad, a place that 70s Chilean dictator, Augusto Pinochet, used to torture political dissidents. As a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and the founder of HeForShe, we’d expect nothing less than strong female acting roles from Miss Watson.
