It goes without saying that anticipation for the new series of Twin Peaks is running pretty high right now. From David Lynch releasing new music, to news that the original soundtrack is getting re-released (on coffee colored vinyl, of course) to Mark Frost’s book that reveals what’s been happening in the town for the last 25 years, our appetites have certainly been whet for the new season.
Which is handy, as it’s now officially less than a year until it hits screens. Showtime, the network behind the reboot, has confirmed a release for the first half of 2017, and announced that each episode will be longer than the traditional 60 minutes. “Everything about Twin Peaks is going to be unconventional — unconventional in the handling of it and how we put it out in the world and how we market,” Showtime CEO David Nevins said.”I want to embrace the unusualness of it, and I think it is quite possible we’re not going to do a traditional release pattern. I don’t know exactly what that means yet.”
Nevins also confirmed that David Lynch is busy editing the final thing now, and that the footage he’s seen has, “that feeling of sort of unsettling, eerie mystery and also sometimes really funny.” While we have no idea where this might lead us, we have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.
