The latest film by acclaimed director Jacques Audiard (A Prophet, Rust and Bone), Dheepan is the story of a former Tamil Tiger warrior who flees his civil-war ravaged homeland with a woman and child posing as his family — only to find a new kind of brutality in the suburban housing projects of Paris. A timely look at current immigrant experience in France, the film follows Deepen (played by real-life former child soldier, Antonythasan Jesuthasan) as he takes a job as a caretaker of a banlieue housing block, where the daily violence he confronts quickly reopens the violence from his past. Compelling and insightful, the film raises important questions about what becomes of the millions of migrants leaving conflict zones. You can watch the exclusive trailer below.
Dheepan is released on April 8.
